Redefining Success

At our latest annual conference, business owners amicably boast to one another about how long they each could go without their smartphones before anxiety kicks in. The “winner” was the owner of a nationwide logistics and cold-storage service provider who went on a trip to Tibet for 36 days without any worries for her growing business despite being completely out of reach. The conversation was filled with friendly banter and laughter but it was also equally revealing. The amount of time they can have away from work – without worries – is how they all assess success. If you share a similar goal, consider this.

Plan for exit strategies at get-go.

Work on creating a business that you can sell even if selling it isn’t your plan. This will focus your attention on building a system that will make you as unnecessary as possible for the day-to-day operations of your business. Only then will you be able to free your time and attention for the challenges of continued growth that could eventually be delegated.
